Nate Vriesman announces candidacy and Mayor Sheets’ endorsement
August 17, 2009
Nate Vriesman, a Professional Engineer living and working in Byron Township, is today publicly announcing his candidacy to serve the people of Michigan's 77th District as their State Representative. The 77th District consists of the City of Wyoming and Byron Township and is currently represented by Kevin Green who is unable to run again because of term limits.
While the Nate4State campaign has been active over the summer, Nate is beginning his official campaign with the endorsement of City of Wyoming Mayor, Carol S. Sheets. Mayor Sheets will be endorsing Nate's candidacy on August 20, 2009 during a campaign fundraising event. The event starts at 7pm and includes entertainment by the Williams Family Band. Event details can be found at www.Nate4State.com/fundraiser.
Nate and Heidi Vriesman are both graduates of Calvin College. Heidi stays at home with their three children: Emilia (5), Jonny (3), and Matthew (1). As a civil engineer with Prein&Newhof, Nate works for and with many local townships and cities, counties, and the State of Michigan (including Byron Township and the City of Wyoming).
“Working in the private sector for government entities at all levels gives me a unique ability to see the efficiencies of our local units of government as compared to our state and federal governments,” said Nate. “This experience has allowed me to see areas where our state government should cut and areas where lower levels of government could do the job more efficiently.”
Nate has been very active in the community. He has been the manager of local construction projects of everything from water tanks to roads and sidewalks, is active in the South Kent Rotary Club, has participated in Career Days at Byron Center Public Schools as a member of the Byron Chamber of Commerce, mentors freshmen engineering students from Calvin College, and is heavily involved at his church.
"I am running for office because, today more than ever, we need people leading our government who can implement conservative ideas with unwavering integrity. We can make Michigan job-friendly, honor successful traditional values and provide an environment of freedom so families can train their children well. I am excited about the possibilities, and I have the energy to faithfully articulate bold ideas which will benefit our community!"
Over the next 15 months you will find Nate and his family meeting voters around the neighborhoods of Wyoming and Byron. You can contact and learn more about Nate Vriesman by going to www.nate4state.com or searching for Nate Vriesman on Facebook. “Please look us up, and don’t hesitate to contact me with any ideas, concerns, or questions you may have. Together we can work to make Michigan a place where our children and grandchildren will want to live and work!”
